Of course, one of the most demanded questions made by makers is how to connect Apple devices to Carriots. The Big Apple company has1 billion active devices in the world and we are sure that you are thinking that your project must be compatible with iOS. In this Tutorialwe show you how easy is to create a Proof of Concept (POC) prototype using an IPhone app, an Apple Watch (using WatchOS), a Raspberry and our IoT Platform Carriots.
In the example, iOS and watchOS are programmed using Swift to send a data stream to Carriots that closes or open a light circuit. All the data streams sent by the iPhone or the Apple WATCH are collected and stored in Carriots. In this tutorial you will also learn how to build a very simple Alert App that sends an email to you in case the Raspberry Pi closes the light circuit thanks to the streams sent by Apple devices.

In Carriots we have an easy platform to use and practice your IoT projects. Most of users start by creating Proof of Concept (POC) prototypes with simple computing boards. Therefore we publish simple Tutorial with most demanded features for POCs. We have just published a new tutorial to connect a Raspberry to our Platform to monitor and control a Relay. In this example you create an alarm app warning us if a light is on by monitoring the state of a Relay.
This is an easy and fast example about how a Raspbery Pi can be programmed to send a data stream to Carriots and build apps very quickly with a few lines of code. In this scenario we are going to build a very simple Alert App that sends a SMS to you in case that Raspberry Pi detects a change in the Relay.

We enjoyed 3 days of South Summit full of experiences: meeting new startups, learning from different speakers, testing new tech products, taking to customers … We had a space in the Orange Stand because the company has an acceleration program we won last year. This year The Orange Fab Program has selected three new startups: Momit, Sensovida and Iomando. Momit has a Smart Home solution to reduce energy consumed at homes, Sensovida is an innovative telecare solution that detects the presence of a person in their houses and IOmando, a new system to control the access to our homes ( or companies) with a mobile phone and without keys. Our CEO Miguel Castillo participated in a round table about Empowering Disruptors moderated by Eric Tartanson VP Corporate Development at Orange .
At South Summit there were several acceleration programs and investors interested in new services or products related with new technologies. These type of gatherings show the endless opportunities to innovate in any sector. Attending round tables discussions and masterclasses from successful entrepreneurs is always inspiring.

Hi! Today and until Friday, we are present at South Summit 2016 in Madrid where Carriots has been chosen as one of the 100 finalist for the Startup Competition. More than 3000 projects were submitted to the competition in this occasion. The encounter also has a very interesting talks program during these 3 days with the participation of 250 international speakers from different areas of the startup ecosystem. The encounter, is organized by Spain Startup and Foundation IE-IE Business School, in collaboration with Endesa, BStartup of Banco Sabadell and Google for Entrepreneurs. This morning, our CEO, Miguel Castillo has participated in an investor’s speech to show Carriots exponential growth history. And tomorrow he will also participate in a round table.

This is a new service available for Carriots corporate accounts (subscription charges apply). You can now create very visual dashboards to have a better “picture” of your data. With all sort of widgets you can better decisions in seconds. We have created a new section, on your Carriots control panel, called Dashboard, that looks like this:
Here you will find information about this new service and its monthly cost. Once you subscribe to it you will be able to create dashboards and configure them with data. To show show how it looks like, we have created a tutorial with the example of our weather station ( and old Carriots project you can read about that here). After a few hour collecting data the visual is clear:
These Dashboards are easy to create and you do not need to write any line of code. Plus you can also share your information with a simple URL and make it public if you want! Ever wondered how many machines fail around the world every second? It might be impossible to know the exact number because most of the machines are not connected to a system where they can report errors. If the machine is critical to your business or to your life, you might have a maintenance contract to prevent failures or at least have a repair as soon as possible. Companies providing maintenance contracts have tried to prevent failures in their systems by programing periodic inspections and maintenances job and to avoid common failures. Normally periodic inspections follow a protocol the check the parts of the machine and try to fix minor malfunctions to avoid a big one. Internet of Things, in some industries, has revolutionized the maintenance process by introducing Condition Monitoring Systems that can prevent malfunctions and sudden failures. Condition Monitoring, picks data that machinery is transmitting while it operates ( like temperature, vibrations,fluids, electronic data, power consumptions …), analysing them and combining with other external information ( like site conditions, for example the weather or the repair history) . Mix all the data, process it with the right tools and workflows and as result you can predict possible failures.

The connected machinery and the Internet of Things allows to have important data to analyze and to program better maintenance jobs. This new procedure is very important for the people who work with this machinery (sometimes very dangerous) trying to prevent possible accidents and helping the Maintenance Team “predict” better inspections. In fact, Condition Monitoring has become a very important step in the Maintenance Strategy. Big companies like Caterpillar (CAT) are working with this technology in many fields and improving it every day to offer better solutions, one example you can see in the video about how Cat® MineStar™ Health works:
The benefits are huge: more secure machines, planned maintenance becomes more effective, important reductions in repair costs and an increase in the machine life expectancy. The IoT has changed the Maintenance Concept of many industries and machines and there are already many examples around us, like in the elevators of ThyssenKrupp.
Sometimes, there are machines working in hostile environments and access to them is difficult. In this case we can combine Condition Monitoring with Remote Diagnosis of the problems. Siemens has expertise in the area. They use remote monitoring and diagnosis in wind turbines deployed worldwide, normally in remote areas to collect all sort of alarms remotely but also detecting potential errors before become major failures.
