South Summit: Crowdsourcing the Innovation Ecosystem

We enjoyed 3 days of South Summit full of experiences: meeting new startups, learning from different speakers, testing new tech products, taking to customers … We had a space in the Orange Stand because the company has an acceleration program we won last year. This year The Orange Fab Program has selected three new startups: Momit, Sensovida and Iomando.  Momit has a Smart Home solution to reduce energy consumed at homes, Sensovida is an innovative telecare solution that detects the presence of a person in their houses and IOmando, a new system to control the access to our homes ( or companies) with a mobile phone and without keys. Our CEO Miguel Castillo participated in a round table about Empowering Disruptors moderated by Eric Tartanson VP Corporate Development at Orange .

South Summit Round Table

At South Summit there were several acceleration programs and investors interested in new services or products related with new technologies. These type of gatherings show the endless opportunities to innovate in any sector.  Attending round tables discussions and masterclasses from successful entrepreneurs is always inspiring.

Here is the list of ideas worth noting on our diary:

  1. Focus on your project as your only job
  2. Do not be afraid to fail
  3. You will certainly need more resources than you planned
  4. Time and money are scarce resources, so don’t waste them
  5. Don’t surrender!

Carriots closes a Series-B round of investment

It is now official, we have raised a Series-B round.

From here we want to thank all the people involved in Carriots: customers, partners, users, friends, supporters and of course our great team. You all helped to achieve this great milestone for Carriots.

Here is the official press note:

Carriots , a leading player in software for the Internet of Things, privately held and headquartered in Madrid (Spain), has raised a Series-B round to finance its international growth and pursue the development of its IOT Application Enablement Platform (AEP) and new products for Smart Cities and Industries. The investment has been led by Suez Environnement Group ( and the Spanish Government through the public company CDTI (Spain’s public Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology )

Incorporated in 2011, Carriots is already recognized as one of the world leaders in AEP Software for IOT with customers in many industries such as Manufacturing, Utilities and HealthCare and Smart-Cities. Carriots has already built a solid base of clients in four continents, some of whom include top Fortune 500 companies such as Cisco Systems, ArcelorMittal or Enel Group. With this basis, along with a strategic partnership network, the company has built a growth plan including geographic expansion and new product development to consolidate its leadership in innovation along with sectorial specialization. The capital from this financing round will be used to expand the go-to-market strategy of the company and to invest in additional platform capabilities that build upon Carriots IOT platform leading position.

In the past four years we have built our platform, increasing its versatility and features. It has also passed many different tests as our clients demanded more services and more capacity. We now have a powerful tool that dramatically reduces times of development and costs for companies building connected products for the IOT” said Miguel Castillo, CEO of Carriots.

The Carriots platform provides the most common modules to M2M / IOT projects (device management, data collection, data storage and security) in order to reduce development time for applications. The platform is available as a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) on a public cloud with a pay-as-you-grow model based on the number of devices. It is also available as a private cloud and on premise licenses for system integrators and large customers.

The co-inversion of Suez Environnement Group and CDTI has been made via the fund Venture Opportunities (VENTO), managed by Suma Capital. VENTO is a public-private investment tool that invests between 0,5 and 5 million euros in the launching and expansion phases of companies with innovative products in the fields of water cycle, environment, energy and smart cities. The fund has previously invested in companies related to Smart Cities and Internet of Things such as Seinon or Hydromodel.
